Caring for your new piercing properly is essential to ensure smooth healing and prevent complications. Follow these aftercare tips to keep your piercing healthy and looking its best:
1. Clean with Sterile Saline Only
Spray the front and back of your piercing with sterile saline solution twice daily.
Avoid using alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, as these can kill the white blood cells essential for healing.
2. Hands Off!
Never touch your piercing with dirty hands. Touching it introduces bacteria and slows the healing process.
3. Don’t Rotate or Twist the Jewelry
Rotating your piercing may feel like it helps, but it actually causes irritation and prevents proper healing. Leave the jewelry in place and let it heal naturally.
4. Sleep with Care
Avoid sleeping on your pierced side. If needed, use a travel pillow with a hole in the center so your ear floats without pressure.
Don’t sleep with damp hair, as it creates a breeding ground for bacteria near the piercing site.
5. Expect Swelling
Your piercing bar is slightly longer to accommodate initial swelling. Once healed, we can downsize it for a snug and comfortable fit.
6. Piercing Bumps
It’s common to develop a bump, often caused by irritants like insufficient cleaning, sleeping on the piercing, or excessive tugging.
Remove the irritant, and the bump should go away on its own.
7. When in Doubt, Ask Me
If you experience any issues, consult me before attempting to fix anything yourself. I’m here to guide you through the healing process!
